Personal Safety Wear safety goggles Wear aprons and gloves as directed Wear closed toe shoes No loose clothing or jewelry Tie back long hair No food, drink, or gum

Safe Practices Before beginning a lab – Read all procedures – Understand potential hazards and safeguards – Inspect all equipment During the lab – Do not deviate from the instructions – Ask if you have questions After the lab – Clean up – Wash hands thoroughly

Safety Equipment Working with your group, come up with a list of 10 safety related items located around the room. State what you think each item is used for

Eyewash Station Purpose: Flush contaminates from eyes. Procedure: Flush eyes for at least 20 minutes. Hold your eyes open. Rotate your eyeballs.

Safety Shower Purpose: Flush contaminates from skin exposed to hazardous chemicals. Procedure: Stand under shower and engage water. Flush for at least 20 min. Remove contaminated clothing if necessary.

Fire Extinguisher Purpose: Put out a fire Procedure: Notify teacher immediately if there is a fire then use extinguisher to put it out. Hold extinguisher upright and pull the ring safety pin. Stand back from the fire and aim at the base of the fire. Squeeze handles together and sweep the extinguisher stream side to side.

Fire Blanket Purpose: To smother fires. Procedure If you catch on fire, STOP, DROP, & ROLL. Someone else should grab the fire blanket. Wrap blanket around victim or place over the fire.
