Differentiated Strategies Utilized peer groups Allowed students to be group leaders and team experts. Utilized graphic organizers We used flip books, anchor charts, and active board activities. Utilized manipulatives We used manipulatives such as base ten blocks to create pictures. Utilized technology We watched Brainpop Jr. videos and answered the quiz questions which were tiered into groups easy and hard. Utilized small groups We had small group time for both reading and math.

Impact on student learning In the build an animal math lesson the results were as follows: Pre-assessment: 16 students made less than seventy percent and 5 students made higher than seventy percent. Post-assessment: 11 student made less than seventy percent and 10 students made higher than eighty percent.
16
Example of pre and post assessment.
17
Adjusting for the students After giving the pre-assessment I adjusted the lesson in the following ways: Provided more practice during the lesson Made sure to have two different examples and left them visible. I also made sure the student could go up and physically measure the piece to see where it would go. Made a flip book to show an example of expanded form and number form Modeled the activity and walked around and provided direct instruction

Professional Development Attended weekly staff meetings Attended chick-fil-a spirit night Attended PTA meeting for 2 nd grade performance Attended CCGPS 2 nd math conference A member of SPAGE and GAE

My Philosophy Then: That teaching was something a person did to make a difference and that everyone should be taught the same way. Now: I have now learned the importance of differentiation in the classroom. We have to teach everyone differently because everyone learns differently.

Plan to develop as a professional In about a year or so I plan to continue my education and go on to earn a Master’s in education. To continue to search for ways to improve my teaching abilities. Plan to possibly get into teaching ESOL students and learn Spanish fluently. Seek out new ways of teaching and new strategies.
