4 NCLB Performance Goals 1. All students will reach high standards, at a minimum attaining proficiency or better in reading and mathematics, 2013-2014. 2. All limited-English-proficient students will become proficient in English and reach high academic standards, at a minimum attaining proficiency or better in reading/language arts and mathematics. 3. By 2013-2014, all students will be taught by highly qualified teachers. 4. All students will be educated in learning environments that are safe, drug-free, and conducive to learning. 5. All students will graduate from high school.

Measure the Effectiveness of Current Improvement Strategies a) Analyze Student Performance b) Analyze Current Educational Practices, Professional Development, Staffing, and Parental Involvement. 2. Seek Input from Staff and Advisory Committees 3. Develop Performance Goals 4. Revise Improvement Strategies and Expenditures 5. Local Governing Board Approval 6. Monitor Implementation - Ongoing

7 Strategic Plan Goals O We will provide a highly engaging 21 st century curriculum focused on developing global citizens. O We will create flexible learning environments, enabling students to reach their individual potential. O We will provide a robust array of opportunities in a positive and safe atmosphere to address the needs of the whole child. O We will provide and support engaging, high quality instruction which promotes active learning and maximizes student achievement. O We will utilize our existing and future resources to support the goals of our district.

8 Performance Goal #1 All students will reach high standards, at minimum, attaining proficiency or better in reading and mathematics, by 2013-2014. Strategies for Improved Education Practice in Reading and Math O Align instruction with Common Core State Standards O Use of standards-aligned instructional materials and strategies O Increase extended learning time O Expand Response to Intervention O Increase student access to technology O Provide staff development and professional collaboration O Increase staff, parent, and community communication and involvement

9 Performance Goal #2A By June 2013, the percentage of English learners making annual progress in learning English will increase from 63.5% to 65%, as measured by the CELDT. Strategies for Improved Education Practice for English Language Learners O Align the English Language Development instruction and curriculum with English Language Development Standards

10 Performance Goal #2B O By June 2013, the English language proficiency level of English learners who have received language instruction fewer than 5 years will increase from 33.8% to 35%,as measured by the CELDT. O By June 2013, the English language proficiency level of English learners in language instruction for 5 or more years will increase from 32.3% to 45.1%, as measured by the CELDT.

11 Strategy for Improved Education Practice for English Learners O Implement the English Learner Instructional Plan (ELIP) which provides for the clustering of students by language level. Performance Goal #2B

12 Performance Goal #2C O By June 2013, the percentage of English learners attaining proficiency in reading/language arts will increase from 52.5% to 65%, as measured by the CST, CMA, CAPA and or CAHSEE. O By June 2013, the percentage of English learners attaining proficiency in mathematics will increase from 53.5% to 65.2%, as measured by the CST, CMA, CAPA and or CAHSEE.

13 Performance Goal #2C Strategies for Improved Education Practice for English Learners O Provide high quality standards-based content for English Language Arts (ELA) and Math instruction for English learners O Support ELA and Math instruction by providing Specifically Designed Academic Instruction in English (SDAIE) and Guided Language Acquisition by Design (GLAD) O Provide targeted ELA and Math interventions designed to support EL students

14 Performance Goal #2D By June 2013, 100% of Local Educational Agency (LEA) site administrators will receive professional development on research- based strategies to improve English learner attainment of English. Strategy to Improve Education Practice for English Learners O Provide high quality professional development targeted to meet the needs of English learners

15 Performance Goal #2E By June 2013, the Local Education Agency (LEA) will improve and increase parent outreach strategies so that 25% of parents are active participants in the education of their children. Strategies to Improve Education Practice for English Learners O Provide communication which is clear and often to the staff, parents and community O Increase involvement of EL parents

16 Performance Goal #3 By 2013-2014, all students will be taught by highly qualified teachers. Strategies for Planned Improvements for Professional Development O Ensure ELA and Math professional development is aligned with standards O Implement research based professional development O Ensure professional development is designed to positively impact student achievement O Coordinate professional development activities with professional development provided through Federal, State, and local programs
