Chapter 8.3: Trigonometric Ratios
2
Introduction Trigonometry is a huge branch of Mathematics. In Geometry, we touch on a small portion. Called the “Trigonometric Functions”. They are three formulas that can be used to find the side lengths of right triangles. They’re called: Sine, Cosine, and Tangent
3
Sin, Cos, Tan properties SIN = length of the side opposite an angle length of the hypotenuse COS = length of the adjacent side to an angle length of the hypotenuse TAN = length of the side opposite and angle length of the side adjacent to an angle represent an Angle measure
4
Abbreviation Soh-Cah-Toa is a way to help you memorize the trig. Formulas. SOH Sin = opp hyp CAH Cos = adj hyp TOA Tan = opp adj
5
Defining Adjacent and Opposite Name the line segment: –Adjacent to Angle A= –Opposite to Angle A= –Adjacent to Angle C= –Opposite to Angle C= AB C
7
How to read the Trig Table Sin 34= Cos 86= Tan 57=
