Food in the past A long time ago the people all over the world ate really healthy because the food came only from nature. The poor people made and ate much bread or something similar to pizza. They did not ate a lot because everything was too expensive for them. But the rich people had got bigger menu. They ate a lot of meat like pork, deer, lamb and beef. They had got expensive spice like cinnamon.

History of the food Thousand years ago the people ate mainly meat. They were hunters Lately they found the taste of the fruits and vegetables The food we are eating today in Europe was not existing in the past. Some of the food like cacao, tomatoes, potatoes and others, came here because of people who traveled around the world.

cacao The cacao tree is really small (4 – 8 m)
Its homelands are the deep tropical region of Americans. Now the tree is growing only in the Amazons and Orinoco river basins. This is the one of the most useful trees in the world.

peppers The peppers were discovered by Christopher Columbus in 1492 year. They were discovered in Mexico and from there they were transported to the Philippines, India, Korea and Japan. Now there are many types of peppers in all of the world.

Tomatoes Tomatoes homeland is Peru.
They were accepted like a food in the 1800s. Before that the Europeans thought that the tomatoes were unhealthy and didn` t eat them.

Potatoes Also in Peru there were potatoes.
The people there grew them years ago. After the Spanish explorers tried potatoes they started to carried them back to Spain on their ships. Soon the potatoes became really important food in the menu of the Europeans.

Food now – healthy or unhealthy food?
Nowadays everybody are too busy to eat soup, or something that we had prepare for lunch. Usually we chose the fastest way - eat hamburgers, pizza and hot dog. Today there are more and more people explaining about the unhealthy food. They say that those sandwiches we eat are really bad for our body and we have to eat healthy.

Food pyramid There are five main food groups that we need to be healthy. Food is the fuel for our body. We need this fuel for energy, to help our body grow and to keep warm.

grains This is the food grown that we should eat most.
It includes healthy foods like cereal rice and pasta. We should eat between six and eleven servings per day. They provide us with carbohydrates.

Fruits and vegetables Fruits and vegetables give us fibre, minerals and vitamins. We should eat at least three servings of fruits and three to five servings of vegetables per day.

Dairy We should have two to four servings from the dairy food group every day. This is the best source of calcium which we need to make our bones strong.

Meat We should eat two to three servings per day of the food of this group. This group includes eggs, nuts, fish, meat and dry beans. The food of this group give us proteins, iron and zinc.

Fats, oils and sweets Fats, oils and sweets provide hardly any nutrition for the body so we should eat very little from this group.

Eating out Everybody likes to eat out…
Nowadays the eating out become more popular. Now in the towns and cities there are bigger and more restaurants. Last century begun the age of “FAST FOOD”

McDonald`s The business began in 1940 year with only one restaurant opened by the brothers Rick and Mac McDonald. After years they decided to returned their restaurants into fast-food chain Like that McDonald`s started the start of the fast – food chains.

Pizza The pizza was born in 1889 year, probably?
When Queen Margarita wanted to prepared for her a special dish. The cooker made a pizza with basil, mozzarella and tomatoes. Then the pizza was called on the name of the Queen.

Coca - Cola Usually the hamburger and pizza goes together with ice Coca-Cola The Coca-Cola Company was established in 1886 The originally idea was for a patent medicine. It was invented by John Pemberton. Soon the businessman Asa Griggs Candler returned it to the fizzy drink – Coca-Cola.
