Food Service Industry NRA (National Restaurant Association) Food industry sales are about 4% of the US gross domestic product (GDP) Most eating and drinking places are small businesses (7 out of 10 have less than 20 employees) More than 70 million meals & snacks are eaten in restaurants, schools, & work cafeterias each year In 2010 the restaurant industry is expected to operate more than 1 million units and post $577 BILLION in sales

Food Service Industry Quick Service – Fast Food Food & Beverage – F & B Three of the largest contract food companies are Sodexho, ARAMARK, and Compass Group Offer very interesting careers

Careers in the Hospitality Industry Why do people go into the hospitality industry? – The industry offers more career options than most – The work is varied – There are many opportunities to be creative – It is a “people” business
