4 Initial Study and Report A national study of the clinical placement bottleneck was completed as a first step in this project. Many systems, workgroups, consortiums and processes were studied. The results identified that the automation of Clinical Scheduling produces a 10-20% increase in clinical opportunities. As a result of this study and many workgroup member comments, a request for proposal for a clinical scheduling and calendaring database was developed. Spicer Group responded to the RFP and joined the workgroup as a development partner in November 2005. Why? New clinical opportunities and requests get posted within the system by the scheduler. Quickly gets the word out to everyone. Identifies areas that are underutilized. Saves our schedulers an enormous amount of time. More time allows increase in research, planning and communication. More time allows for innovative ideas. More time increases the possibilities of new clinical opportunities.
