QUESTION What is diffraction ?
3
Answer The process by which a beam of light or other system of waves is spread out as a result of passing through a narrow aperture or across an edge, typically accompanied by interference between the wave forms produced this scattering form of wave is called diffraction.
4
The phenomenon exhibited by wave fronts that, passing the edge of an opaque body, are modulated, thereby causing a redistribution of energy within the front: it is detectable in light waves by the presence of a pattern of closely spaced dark and light bands (diffraction pattern) at the edge of a shadow.
5
Diffraction photography was used in spectroscopy to help record the chemical composition of objects studied by astronomers. Diffraction refers to the process by which a beam of light or other system of wave is spread out as a result of passing through a narrow aperture or across an edge. The waves are typically accompanied by interference between the wave forms produced.
6
The formalism of diffraction can also describe the way in which waves of finite extent propagate in free space. For example, the expanding profile of a laser beam, the beam shape of a radar antenna and the field of view of an ultrasonic transducer can all be analyzed using diffraction equations.
