Compact bone (dense) –Dense and forms the surface of bones –Extremely hard Spongy bone (cancellous) –low density and strength –fills the inner cavity of long bones –contains red bone marrow where the production of blood cellular components (known as hematopoiesis) takes place Bone structure = two types of bone
