Task 1 – Style and era Research into the style, era and background of the given context / theme for your performance. This could be in a project format, you should include examples of pieces of music (mp3 / midi) history of genre famous composers famous performers style and trends of era

Task 2 - Arrangement Before creating your own arrangement, it is essential that you listen to other arrangements. If you can find more than one, compare them. Research on the internet to find any digital scores that may be available for you as a starting point. Is there a MIDI file of the melody?

Task 3 – Melody or lyrics Compose your own lyrics or find a set of lyrics that you are thinking of using. Place the main accents on your lyrics. Is the first word of each line important or one in the middle? Consider how you would rap the words. Consider the rhythmic patterns as part of the composing process and try to notate the rhythms – you may decide on more than one pattern before making a final decision.

Task 4 - Mood Compose a short advert jingle to create a happy mood in no more than four bars. Compose a short film trailer to create a sad / scary mood in no more than four bars. What was easy / hard about this task? What would you change in the future in both pieces?

Task 5 – Listening to examples Watch and listen to a performance of a play, pantomime or film where music is used to remind the audience of a character or setting. Evaluate the effect of the music. Where and how is the music repeated? Is there a theme for each character / setting? Where is the music happy / sad / dramatic? Is the music part of the scene or background music?
