For each NGSS standard, you can find… 5 E Lesson Plan with cross curricular connections Power Point Presentation with teacher slides, student guided slides, extension activities, additional read-aloud suggestions and vocabulary cards Performance Based Rubrics have been created for each standard Materials List As you are going through the lessons and PowerPoint presentations, please keep in mind that they will take time. Each lesson is not required to be completed in one day. Some may take one day; however, many of the lessons are set up to cover multiple days. Feel free to adjust according to your schedule and students. Power Point Breakdown As you begin to view the Power Points provided, you will see the following: Teacher Slides: (has left angled line design)These slides were created to guide the instruction and planning process. You can use or manipulate the lesson layout as you see fit for your classroom. Alignment ideas can be found in the “Notes” section. Student Slides: (has no design)These slides were created to guide the lessons and/or discussions for each standard. Extension Slides: (has left angled line design)These slides contain many possible extension activities. You can use any of these activities that you choose but they are not required. Vocabulary Slides: (has no design) The vocabulary slides are located at the end of each presentation. You can print these slides to display the vocabulary for the class. Links within the slides have been hyperlinked as well listed in the notes section.

5. KLEWS Chart You may be aware of a KWL chart; however in Science we are going to suggest that you use the KLEWS chart to organize and guide science instruction. (Posters will be provided from the Science Department.) K : KNOW (First) What do the students already know before investigations? L : LEARN (Third) What did the students learn after the explore activity? E : EVIDENCE (Second) What evidence did the students find during their exploration? W : WONDER (Throughout) What are the students wondering about? S : SCIENTIFIC UNDERSTANDING (as introduced) Vocabulary learned by the students.

7. Science Notebooks This year, it is recommended that each student have a science journal. Here is an article to explain the why it is a good resource. Students would use the journals, in order to…article Write vocabulary. Draw and label diagrams. Make predictions and observations of various activities. Explain their understandings.
