1 Lesson 34: Jesus Rebuked Satan Memory verse: Matthew 4:4
Firm Foundations Lesson 34: Jesus Rebuked Satan Memory verse: Matthew 4:4 Memory verse: Matthew 4:4But He answered and said, "It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."'[1]

2 Temptation Have you ever been tempted to do something wrong?
Jesus faced temptation too!

3 Satan tempted Jesus Matthew 4:1
The devil was created perfect (Lucifer) Chose to rebel Continually evil Tempted Jesus to rebel Wanted to bring Jesus under his control The Temptation of Jesus (1) 1 Then Jesus was led up by the Spirit into the wilderness to be tempted by the devil.

4 The first temptation Matthew 4:2 Matthew 4:3 Matthew 4:4
Jesus was a real man He got hungry, just like us Matthew 4:3 Satan wants Jesus to “prove it” Not what His father told him to do Matthew 4:4 Something more important than food God’s Word shows the way to everlasting life 2And when He had fasted forty days and forty nights, afterward He was hungry. 3Now when the tempter came to Him, he said, "If You are the Son of God, command that these stones become bread." 4But He answered and said, "It is written, "Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceeds from the mouth of God."'[1]

5 The second temptation Matthew 4:5-6 Matthew 4:7
Satan quoted some of Psalm 91 Satan twisted God’s Word Jesus did not need to test His Father Matthew 4:7 God had promised to take care of Him God is faithful 5Then the devil took Him up into the holy city, set Him on the pinnacle of the temple, 6and said to Him, "If You are the Son of God, throw Yourself down. For it is written:         "He shall give His angels charge over you,' and,         "In their hands they shall bear you up,         Lest you dash your foot against a stone."' 7Jesus said to him, "It is written again, "You shall not tempt the LORD your God."'

6 Jesus is God Jesus created Satan as Lucifer
Not this… Jesus created Satan as Lucifer Jesus will one day throw Satan into the Lake of Fire Satan versus Jesus Balanced fight? No way! This…

7 The third temptation Matthew 4:8-9 Matthew 4:10
Satan is the god of this world Satan could influence people to do evil things he planned Matthew 4:10 Jesus quoted Deuteronomy 4:4 Jesus did not change God’s Word Jesus did not obey Satan as Adam had 8Again, the devil took Him up on an exceedingly high mountain, and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their glory. 9And he said to Him, "All these things I will give You if You will fall down and worship me." 10Then Jesus said to him, "Away with you,[4] Satan! For it is written, "You shall worship the LORD your God, and Him only you shall serve."'

8 Satan left Jesus for a while
Matthew 4:11 Satan knew he was defeated Satan tried many times to get Jesus to disobey God Jesus never failed After Satan left, God sent angels to minister 11Then the devil left Him, and behold, angels came and ministered to Him.

9 Conclusion Jesus is… the only one who has ever fully obeyed God and resisted the devil fully man AND fully God the only one who can deliver us from sin, Satan, and death
