2 Located in the State Park on Poteau Mountain near Heavener, Oklahoma First discovered, according to oral history, by Choctaw hunting party in the 1830’s (after they were forced here on Trail of Tears) 8 mysterious symbols in huge slab of stone. In a ravine, protected by overhanging cliffs 12 feet high and 16 inches thick White men discovered in 1870’s 1913 discovered again by Carl F. Kemmerer

3 Gloria Stewart Brought to the site by Carl Kemmerer She dedicated 30 years of her life to research on it Determined the inscription not made by French, Spanish or Indians. Possibly by Vikings who could have come up from the Mississippi River Originally thought date was November 11, 1012. Could be 400 years older than that
