What I’ve learned AND my reaction to the information

URL : uniform resource locator HTML : hyper-text mark-up language What do the acronyms stand for anyways? I hear those two terms all the time, especially URL… A URL is the location of a page or file on the web. HTML is the language used to create Web pages. In ISM3004 we had to use code to create our Web page, and it is a lot harder than having a program like Dreamweaver write it for you.

Megabytes vs. Gigabytes There are 1024 MB in 1 GB, and a GB store a lot more information, music or video content than Megabytes do. Knowing information like this helps me understand the storage capacity of iPods and USB drives and how many songs or information they can hold. It helps me to become a more knowledgeable buyer.

Synchronous vs. Asynchronous Synchronous: Communication NOT in real time. Ex: E-mail, bulletin boards, text message Asynchronous: Communication IN real time between at least two people. Ex: telephone, chartroom, IM I think that people still use synchronous communication more, but asynchronous communication is used a million times more than it used to be just a few years ago. New technologies such as text messages and social networking sites have increased asynchronous communication

Education Technology One definition: “Education technology is a combination of the processes and tools involved in addressing educational needs and problems, with an emphasis on applying the most current tools: computers and their related technologies” –Roblyer 2002 Education has many definitions and different names Ex: Instructional technology or Learning technology Education technology is impacting schools in a positive way. Because of E- learning, I was able to take financial accounting at St. Pete College while taking courses in Gainesville over the summer. It has greatly impacted school aged children like the notes say… by schools being able to offer distant learning courses.

Designing Instructional Media C:ontrast – using colors that contrast each other ex: black font on white background, white font on black background R:epetition- repetition in structure and font helps readers A:llignment- watch where sentences are broken up, it can easily confuse the message P:roximity- keep words that go together near each other, but careful not to clutter Knowing the basic design elements will help me to create a Web page that is easy on the eyes and easily understood. I was not surprised at any of the design rules because I’ve had to take a graphics and design course, and they talked about contrast, repetition, etc…but it was a nice reminder of what to do and what not to do

How does this information relate to advertising and business? The world is rapidly relying on digital communication. Businesses and people are communicating and sharing information more and more through new technology, especially the Internet. With that said, technology constantly changes because of so many new advances. Advertisers have to keep up with the latest and hit communication vehicles to reach consumers. Learning different aspects of the Internet such as social networking sites could possibly help reach people better Using the design principles I have learned will help me to create an effective ads, and understanding the ways people communicate will help me know how to reach consumers more effectively. Also, programs like Dreamweaver have helped me to create my Web presence which essential today. Many companies like college students to have a Web site so that they can see your information easier and faster. Because of E-learning, I was able to take a financial accounting course online at St. Pete College. This helped me to make a better grade in because that class is really hard at UF. The credit is going towards my business minor. In the next section of the course, learning more about Photoshop will help me to create better ads for courses such as Advertising Campaigns. Although in reality I do not want to go into the creative department of an ad agency, I think its still good to know what creative people are capable of when designing an ad.

MY QUESTIONS ? While in the circa lab (the CSE computer lab) I didn’t know how to upload my Web site to the Internet, because those computers didn’t have Fetch. I noticed a FTP thing on the right side of Dreamweaver so I connected to plaza using that… but I still didn’t know how to copy my new files over onto it. (I had to go home and use my filezilla and upload my new stuff to my Web page.) How could I have uploaded my stuff on a CSE computer?
