3 Punishment and Its Goals Retribution: the belief that a wrong done by an individual should be met with an equivalent form of suffering “eye for an eye” Deterrence: the attempt to prevent further criminal behaviour through punishment...tries to prevent re-offending Rehabilitation: view that the offender can be brought back into society through education, therapy or positive supportive environment
