DECIDE METHOD A six step method used to help you identify and solve a problem in a healthy way.

D = Define the problem –What is the problem? Be specific E = Explore your options –You should be able to BRAINSTORM at least 3 options C = Consider the consequences –You should be able to have at least 2+ and 2- consequences I = Identify what you value the most –List 3 value words and circle what you value THE most D = Decide and act –Choose one of your options E = Evaluate the results –What happened? Was it + or -

Decision Making Decision making isn’t done in a vacuum, it involves making personal choices that either consider everyone’s well being, or put self and others at risk.

When making a decision… A person may experience distress when presented with different choices These feelings result from inner conflict before the decision is made.

Conflict Identity & Resolution There are four ways to understand where conflict is coming from when making a difficult decision –Win/Win –Win/Lose –Lose/Lose –Give/Take

WIN / WIN Two equally attractive possibilities, such as taking a trip that someone else paid for

WIN / LOSE Doing one thing that negatively affects the other, such as buying movie tickets means losing the money

LOSE / LOSE Both alternatives are unattractive, such as taking the driving test or not having your license.

GIVE / TAKE Different actions give both positive and negative results, such as going to the concert with friends or staying home to study for a test.
