Doctorate Extension Scheme Scheme introduced April 2013 PhD students can remain in UK for 12 months to work after completion of study Students remain sponsored by education institution Education institution has monitoring and reporting responsibilities

Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Introduced April 2012 Sponsored by education institution for 12 months to set up own business Option to continue for further 12 months April 2013 additional allocation for MBA students ‘genuine and credible’ business idea can work for an employer – unlimited hours easier application process – apply inside and outside UK can switch to Tier 2 or Tier 1 Entrepreneur

Tier 1 Graduate Entrepreneur Low uptake: April – April – does not fit with HE cycle Tier 2 – more secure option? During studies, Tier 4 students cannot ‘be self-employed’

Credibility interviews All students applying outside the UK to be interviewed by video conference (with link to Sheffield) Follow up with face to face interview if deemed necessary Non-risk based

Immigration Bill NHS levy Landlords checks Removal of appeal rights except on human rights grounds. This means: Replace with equivalent of ‘administrative review’ Loss of independent scrutiny of Home Office decision making
