4 Linear Motion Do Now: Take a clicker. On loose leaf… in your own words, explain what velocity is.. & brainstorm at least 3 scenarios for… - constant velocity - changing velocity HW: Finish POGIL up to # 11- you’ll get this in class today
2
4 Linear Motion Do Now Continued: Trade your sheets of loose leaf with your partner for peer review in a DIFFERENT COLOR PEN. Be HONEST but respectful with your comments; use these Sentence Starters as possible starting points: - I agree with ___ because…. - I am confused about ___ because…. - My favorite scenario was___ because…. - I disagree with ___ because…. - A suggestion I can offer for improvement is…
3
4 Linear Motion From now on… No ID on your papers (HW, tests, etc.) means -1 No Class/Period on your papers (HW, tests, etc.) means -1 –The class is not ‘2’ or ‘science’… it is: 2B Or B2

4 Linear Motion Is speed a SCALAR or VECTOR quantity?_____________ Is velocity a SCALAR or VECTOR quantity?_____________ 2.3 Velocity
5
4 Linear Motion Constant Velocity Constant speed means steady speed. Something with constant speed doesn’t speed up or slow down. Constant velocity means both constant speed and constant direction. Constant direction is a straight line, so constant velocity means motion in a straight line at constant speed. 2.3 Velocity

4 Linear Motion Answer the rest of the questions in your Concept Attainment Work efficiently!Work efficiently! You have 5 minutes – then we are clicker reviewing! You have 5 minutes – then we are clicker reviewing!

4 Linear Motion Fill this in on notes: Constant VelocityChanging Velocity To have constant velocity requires BOTH constant __________________________ and constant __________________________. If EITHER the __________________________ or __________________________ (or both) is changing, then the velocity is changing.

4 Linear Motion 1. Please list a scenario in which someone/ something’s velocity is CONSTANT:
10
4 Linear Motion 2. Please list a scenario in which someone/ something’s velocity is CHANGING:

4 Linear Motion 3. Why is the gauge in a car is called a speedometer and not a velocitometer? EXPLAIN
12
4 Linear Motion 4a. This car’s cruise control is set for 50 km/h. It drives in a circle. Does it have a constant speed? EXPLAIN: 1.Yes 2.No 3.Not quite sure
13
4 Linear Motion 4b. This car’s cruise control is set for 50 km/h. It drives in a circle. Does it have a constant velocity? EXPLAIN: 1.Yes 2.No 3.Not quite sure
14
4 Linear Motion 5a. The speedometer of a car moving northward reads 60 km/h. It passes another car that travels 60 km/h southward. Do the cars have the same speed? EXPLAIN: 1.Yes 2.No 3.Not quite sure
15
4 Linear Motion 5b. The speedometer of a car moving northward reads 60 km/h. It passes another car that travels 60 km/h southward. Do the cars have the same velocity? EXPLAIN: 1.Yes 2.No 3.Not quite sure
16
4 Linear Motion POGIL Alternative to lecture MUST WORK in groups of 2-5, no more/less May work at lab benches Not on task = work by yourself in front of class CHECK IN AT STOP SIGNS! Stopping with 5 minutes left for an exit
17
4 Linear Motion You walk 2m north,4 m east, 2 m south, and 2 m left. What is your total DISTANCE covered? 1.2 m 2.2 m to the right 3.10 m 4.10 m to the right 5.None of the above 6.Not sure
18
4 Linear Motion You walk 2m north,4 m east, 2 m south, and 2 m left; it takes you 2 seconds. What is your average SPEED? 1.1 m/s 2.1 m/s to the right 3.5 m/s 4.5 m/s to the right 5.None of the above 6.Not sure
19
4 Linear Motion You walk 2m north,4 m east, 2 m south, and 2 m left. What is your total DISPLACEMENT? 1.2 m 2.2 m to the right 3.10 m 4.10 m to the right 5.None of the above 6.Not sure

4 Linear Motion HW You must finish up to the last Stop Sign for HW (#11) –You do not have to complete the last page of Additional Practice tonight –We will finish that last page (Additional Practice) at a later date
