2 2 History Standard Heritage 4. Recognize state and federal holidays and explain their significance

3 3 Objective To have my students better understand the different holidays and what they mean To have my students know what holidays come on which month

4 4 Activities Have each student prepare a calendar and decorate it with all the different holidays, and have them take it home to have forever

5 5 Materials Paper with all the holidays on it, construction paper, blank calendar, markers, colored pencils, stickers, and glitter

6 6 January New Years Day January 1st 1st day of the year Martin Luther King jr. Day January 15th 3rd Monday of January Celebrates what MLK fought for

7 7 February Valentines Day Feb. 14th Day of love Presidents Day Feb. 19th Washington’s birthday but it also celebrates Lincolns birthday

8 8 March St. Patrick’s Day March 17th Christian feast day that celebrates Saint Patrick, the patron saint of Ireland

9 9 April Easter April 8th Celebration of the resurrection of Jesus Earth Day April 22nd Promotes awareness of environmental issues

10 10 May Mother’s Day May 13th Day of thanking mothers Memorial Day May 28th Celebrates the lives of men and women that died serving our country

11 11 June Flag Day June 14th Celebrates the adoption of the flag in 1777 Father’s Day June 17th Day of thanking dad’s
