Opening 1 The snow was really thick. I like snow so I wasn’t affected too much. I spent a whole day of the holidays building a snowman which was really cool but hard work because the snow was so thick and cold my hands started to hurt. But then when we tried to get to my gran’s on christmas eve we couldn’t because my dad couldn’t get the car out of the snow and he didn’t want to drive because it was dangerous.

Opening 2 The last day of term was the best school day ever! Why? Because we didn’t have to go to school…. I woke up to the sound of my mum’s gentle voice. At first I thought I was dreaming because she seemed to be saying something I couldn’t quite believe. She was telling me that school had been cancelled due to the snow! I sprang out of bed like a kangaroo and pulled back the curtains and was confronted with a winter wonderland. The snow fairy had obviously been hard at work the night before as the snow covered the roads and pavements like a blanket of cotton wool. It was still snowing and the flakes whisked gently in the air until they hit the ground with a silent bang.
10
Learning Intention We will self assess, and peer assess, our essays on snow. Why are we doing this? What should we be looking for?
