A Definition Essay A definition essay is a type of expository writing that explains, or defines, what a topic means

Expository writing is a type of writing that is used to explain, describe, give information, or inform. The text is organized around one topic and developed according to a pattern or combination of patterns.

Defining Heroes - Generate a list of:
Adjectives that could describe what a hero is Example: A hero is brave. Nouns that could define what a hero shows Example: A hero shows courage in the face of danger. Verbs that could define what a hero does Example: A hero fights villains.

On your own… Fold a piece of paper into thirds and label each column as adjectives, nouns and verbs. Look at your brainstorm web and organize your ideas by adjectives, nouns and verbs. Add to each list. Don’t forget to include synonyms for different words!
