Review The scene is set… Jesus is preaching out in the open Jesus is preaching out in the open Blessings & Woes in vs.20-26 Four cultural identifiers… wealth wealth comfort comfort power power fame fame Luke 6:20-26 Blessings and Judgments

Kingdom Principle #1 Forgiven people should Forgive Luke 6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” John 5:22 “Moreover, the Father judges no one, but has entrusted all judgment to the Son” 1 Corinthians 5:12-13 “What business is it of mine to judge those outside the church? Are you not to judge those inside? God will judge those outside…” 1 Corinthians 6:2-3 “Do you not know that the saints will judge the world? And if you are to judge the world, are you not competent to judge trivial cases? Do you not know that we will judge angels? How much more the things of this life!”

Kingdom Principle #1 Forgiven people should Forgive Luke 6:37 “Do not judge, and you will not be judged. Do not condemn, and you will not be condemned. Forgive, and you will be forgiven.” To forgive someone you have to judge them What Jesus is critical of is when we move from judging to condemning Who do you need to forgive? In forgiving you’re not approving Forgiveness is not denying that the sin occurred Forgiveness doesn’t cover sin

Kingdom Principle #2 Getters should be Givers Luke 6:38 “Give, and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." 1. Prosperity Theology 2. Poverty Theology John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son…” 3. Generosity Theology

Kingdom Principle #3 Leaders should lead Themselves Luke 6:39-42 “He also told them this parable: "Can a blind man lead a blind man? Will they not both fall into a pit? A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher. "Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother's eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye? How can you say to your brother, 'Brother, let me take the speck out of your eye,' when you yourself fail to see the plank in your own eye? You hypocrite, first take the plank out of your eye, and then you will see clearly to remove the speck from your brother's eye.” We are all blind to our own blindness It is easier to see sin in someone else’s life than in our own life It is easier to see sin in someone else’s life than in our own life Students become like their teachers So you must be careful who you pick to follow So you must be careful who you pick to follow

Kingdom Principle #4 Good trees should produce good fruit Luke 6:43-45 "No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.” We don’t need behaviour modification, we need regeneration The language of the heart Galatians 5:22-23 “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law.”

Kingdom Principle #5 Truth + Obedience = A Rock Solid Foundation Luke 6:46-49 "Why do you call me, 'Lord, Lord,' and do not do what I say? I will show you what he is like who comes to me and hears my words and puts them into practice. He is like a man building a house, who dug down deep and laid the foundation on rock. When a flood came, the torrent struck that house but could not shake it, because it was well built. But the one who hears my words and does not put them into practice is like a man who built a house on the ground without a foundation. The moment the torrent struck that house, it collapsed and its destruction was complete." John 16:33 “In this world you will have trouble” Truth John 17:17 “Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.” Obedience James 1:22 “Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says.”
