Stamp Act What was the Stamp Act? A tax law that put tax on paper items in the colony such as Newspapers, playing cards and documents. Why were colonists angry with the Stamp Act? They had no representation in Parliament.

Colonists Work Together Why was a boycott a good form of protest against tax laws? It hurt Britain economically because it was deprived of tax money and Britain’s businesses lost consumers. Who were the Sons of Liberty? Men from the colony who worked together against the tax laws. They chased tax collectors out of town. Who were the Daughters of Liberty? Women who took action against the tax laws by making their own cloths instead of buying them.

Committees of Correspondence Why were the Committees of Correspondence formed? To spread information more quickly and protest British policies. What were the Committees of Correspondence? Members in these committees wrote letters to one another and told what was happening in their town or colony. Who formed the first Committee of Correspondence and in what year? Samuel Adams in 1764 How do you think the Committees of Correspondence helped unite the 13 colonies? Colonists were able to find out what was happening in other colonies. Leaders were able to plan unified protests against British policies.

Townshed Acts What were the Townshed Acts? Tax on imports that were brought into the colony such as glass, paint, tea and paper. What were some of the effects of the Townshed Acts? Colonists boycotted British goods and sales of British goods went down.

Boston Massacre Other than the tax laws what caused colonists to be angry? They did not like British soldiers in their cities. What was the Boston Massacre? On March 5, 1770 a large group of angry colonists in Boston threw snowballs and shouted at the British soldiers. The soldiers were knocked down and opened fire. 3 colonists were killed. Who was Crispus Atucks? An African American sailor who is known as the first person killed in the colonists fight for freedom.
