2. Reading We aim to develop a love of reading, not just the skills involved in decoding the text. How can you help? –Bedtime storiesBedtime stories –Try to share a book every evening for just 5 or 10 minutes –Talk about the pictures –Play games using the book –Make a brief note in the green reading record book to help us build a picture of how your child is getting on at home with their reading

3. Phonics We use Letters and Sounds to teach phonics Daily lessons in small groups How can you help? –Practise at home each day making sure you use ‘pure sounds’ –Tricky words

4. Handwriting Practise, praise and perseverance! How can you help? –Encourage your child to practise writing their name using the cursive style. –Encourage your child to make marks in lots of different ways at home. Chalk, paint, water in squirty bottles, water and paint brushes, different thicknesses of felt tips, in sand Help your child hold their pencil correctly
