Markus Will – Germany Second International Seville Seminar on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis Seville 28-29 September 2006 ita ms ITA = Innovation- and Technology Analysis
4
Markus Will – Germany Second International Seville Seminar on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis Seville 28-29 September 2006 ita ms What ITA is… Innovation and Technology Analysis innovation oriented Technology Assessment concept for consulting of decision makers in policy and industry/ business focus on chances/ potentials (TA not as “Technology Arrestment”) shaping technological progess towards sustainability

Markus Will – Germany Second International Seville Seminar on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis Seville 28-29 September 2006 ita ms Innovation Process* Orientation Idea Early Stages/ Fuzzy Front End „Money Gate“ Realisation Concept Selection Realisation Launch * Note: This phase-gate process model is used only for analytical reasons. The process of innovation is much more dynamic and iterative in reality.

Markus Will – Germany Second International Seville Seminar on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis Seville 28-29 September 2006 ita ms Innovation Process* Orientation Idea Early Stages/ Fuzzy Front End „Money Gate“ Realisation Concept Selection Realisation Launch Visioning: Setting „Sustainability“ on the Business Agenda Foresight: Anticipating alternative possible futures of markets and setting the appropriate business strategy. Foresight Tools: Scenario Method – Delphi – Expert interview Technology Monitoring - Roadmapping

Markus Will – Germany Second International Seville Seminar on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis Seville 28-29 September 2006 ita ms Innovation Process* Orientation Idea Early Stages/ Fuzzy Front End „Money Gate“ Realisation Concept Selection Realisation Launch Genesis of Ideas for innovations. This is a creative process, depending somehow on a creative atmosphere and on creative people. Supporting Tools: Creative Methods as brainstorming, delphi, method 635, morphology, portfolio technique, quality function development QFD / house of quality, synectic, TRIZ, Failure Tree Analysis…

Markus Will – Germany Second International Seville Seminar on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis Seville 28-29 September 2006 ita ms Innovation Process* Orientation Idea Early Stages/ Fuzzy Front End „Money Gate“ Realisation Concept Selection Realisation Launch Pre-Selection. Applying a simple assessment („quick&dirty“) in order to select promising alternative ideas for a more detailed conceptualisation. Criteria: Feasability (economical), technical performance and negative (environmental) impacts (indicator e.g. Cumulative Energy Demand – CED) Supporting Tools: Simplified/Streamlined Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Costing based on checklists, generic data or product classification systems.

Markus Will – Germany Second International Seville Seminar on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis Seville 28-29 September 2006 ita ms Innovation Process* Orientation Idea Early Stages/ Fuzzy Front End „Money Gate“ Realisation Concept Selection Realisation Launch Selection. After developing draft concepts of selected alternatives, a selection for one alternative is necessary in order to enter the „money-gate“ as starting point of the project management and realisation of the product. Criteria: Feasability (economical), technical performance and negative (environmental) impacts (indicator e.g. Cumulative Energy Demand – CEA) Supporting Tools: Assessment of Alternatives: more detailed Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Costing Decision Making: f.e. Analytic Hierachical Process (AHP) or other DM support tools

Markus Will – Germany Second International Seville Seminar on Future-Oriented Technology Analysis Seville 28-29 September 2006 ita ms Innovation Process* Orientation Idea Early Stages/ Fuzzy Front End „Money Gate“ Realisation Concept Selection Realisation Launch Realisation. After passing the „money gate“, the engineering process, including prototyping and testing, can start. The realisation phase can be escorted by Simultaneous Engineering instruments. Supporting Tools: Constructive Technology Assessment, Life Cycle Assessment and Life Cycle Costing
