Integrator Case Task 2 Methods Descriptions By Leigh-Kathryn Smith
2
Teaching Method: Present Definition: Teacher led presentation of ideas and facts, followed by student demonstration of learned ideas and facts. Essential Learning Element: Guided Practice Strategy Idea: Draw the Customer Profile diagram on the board. Explain what it is and why marketers use it. Write each label, and explain what the label means (Demographics: a person’s education level, income level, age, gender, race, etc.). ( Demographics, Geographics, Psychographics, and Product Benefits ). Using a data projector, show a magazine advertisement and explain each part of the customer profile to the class.
3
Teaching Method: Question Definition: Students are guided by the teacher to discover facts & ideas through questions about the topic Essential Learning Element: Guided Practice Strategy Idea: With an overhead projector show the class a magazine advertisement. Explain that as a class you will complete a Customer Profile for the ad. Ask the students who their target market would be for the ad. Cover Geographics ( where might customer live? ), Demographics ( describe based on education, income, gender, etc. ), Psychographics ( lifestyle questions ), and Product Benefits ( desired/offered )
4
Teaching Method: Active Learning Definition : Students actively apply what they have learned during an activity. Essential Learning Element: Guided Practice Strategy Idea: Having brought in a magazine advertisement, the student will fully describe the Customer Profile (a diagram for the four parts will be handed out) for that advertisement's target market.
5
Teaching Method: Collaborative Learning Definition : Students work with one or more peers to apply facts and ideas learned to a situation Essential Learning Element: Guided Practice Strategy Idea: Students are broken into teams, and given a magazine advertisement. As a ‘team’ students will work to reach consensus about what their Customer Profile would be (based on Demographics, Geographics, Psychographics, and Product Benefits)
6
Teaching Method: Role Playing Definition: Students work to solve a problem that has ‘real- world’ elements by role-playing a ‘subject expert’. Essential Learning Element: Guided Practice Strategy Idea: Students are given a magazine advertisement for a product that is targeted to a specific market (i.e.: the Wii entertainment system aimed at the ‘Net Generation’) and told to complete a Customer Profile for the product. Next they are told that they need to increase the product’s market share and to reposition the product to include a different target market. The student will be charged with determining the new target market, devising a new customer profile, and a new advertisement appealing to that new target market.
7
Teaching Method: Problem-Based Learning Definition: Students work to solve a problem that has ‘real- world’ elements. This necessitates viewing the problem from differing perspectives (‘thinking outside the box’) Essential Learning Element: Guided Practice Strategy Idea: Students are given a magazine advertisement for a product that is targeted to a specific market (i.e.: the Wii entertainment system aimed at the ‘Net Generation’) and told to complete a Customer Profile for the product. Next they are told that they need to increase the product’s market share and need to reposition the product to include a different target market (i.e.: ‘Whoopies’—70+ years old) thus changing the look of the customer profile. Students are asked to explain each part of the new profile.
