Vocabulary Cell cycle: repeating set of events that make up the life of a cell. Chromosomes: DNA and protein in a coiled, rod shaped form that occurs during cell division. Cytokinesis: is the division of the cytoplasm of the cell Binary fission: division of a prokaryotic cell into two offspring cells.

Meiosis and mitosis Meiosis is a process of nuclear division that reduces the number of chromosomes in a new cells to half the number in the original cell. Mitosis is the division of the nucleus, this occurs during cell division. Mitosis is a continuous process that is divided into four phases: prophase, metaphase, anaphase, and telophase.
