Our Father

Purpose within the text You are addressing this prayer to God. He is the father of everything and everyone on this earth. This is relevant to us because we go to our parents for help and support and we can talk to them about anything, this is the same with God.

Who art in Heaven

Purpose within the text That God is above us in heaven. This line follows on from the last by addressing this prayer to God who lies in heaven. This line helps us believe that there is something after life. Also it helps us believe that God is watching us and protecting us.

Hallowed be thy name

This line is saying that God is greater than anyone else. This line applies to us because we put all our faith in God and we respect him and love him more than anyone else. Purpose within the text

Thy kingdom come

Purpose within the text This line is saying that when we die we want God to let us into heaven, this line also means that we should bring the good of heaven to earth. This is relevant to us today because we know that there are consequences for our wrongs and that if we lead good lives we will be rewarded.

As we forgive those who trespass against us;

Purpose within the text This line means we are asking God to help us forgive the people who have made bad decisions or wronged us in the past. This relates to our everyday lives because in order for us to be forgiven for our wrongs we have to forgive others, and once we can forgive others we know we are living as God wants us to.
