WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW… At the end of each school year you are tested in each subject. PARCC Prep

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW… For Science and Social Studies, you will take the LEAP test. For ELA and Math you will take the PARCC test. PARCC Prep

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW… PARCC will be administered in TWO phases (at two different points in the year). Phase One is in March. Phase Two will be in May. Phase One will have constructed response (essays) Phase Two will be multiple choice. PARCC Prep

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW… 2015 Testing Dates: March 16-18: ELA (Phase 1) March 19-20: Math (Phase 1) April 14-15 (T & W): Science, SS (LEAP) May: 4-5: Math (Phase 2) May: 6-7: ELA (Phase 2) PARCC Prep

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW about PARCC… This will be a paper-based test. You will not be allowed to use a dictionary or a thesaurus on test day. PARCC Prep

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW about PARCC… You will read a series of passages, answer questions about the passages, and write essays. This is a TIMED test. PARCC Prep

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW about PARCC… You will be given two pieces of blank white paper for planning (brainstorming and/or rough draft). There is only space for the student’s final written response in the test booklet. Students will not be provided with a Writer’s Checklist or rough draft page beyond the blank paper provided. WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW… The PARCC test is composed of three different types of tasks. You will complete one task per day. A task is a set of passages and questions (including an essay prompt). PARCC Prep

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW… Students will perform the following types of TASKS during Phase 1 of PARCC: Literary Analysis Research Simulation Narrative PARCC Prep

2 passages: 75 min. The Literary Analysis Task asks students to carefully consider literature worthy of close study and compose an analytic essay. PARCC Prep TYPES OF TASKS: Literary Analysis

TYPES OF TASKS: Research Simulation 3 passages: 90 min. The Research Simulation Task asks students to analyze an informational topic presented through several articles. The first text is an anchor text that introduces the topic. Students will answer a series of questions and synthesize (put together) information from multiple sources in order to write an analytic essay. PARCC Prep

1 passage: 60 min. For the Narrative Task, students may be asked to write a story, detail a scientific process, write a historical account of important figures, or to describe an account of events, scenes or objects. PARCC Prep TYPES OF TASKS: Narrative
