Erica Dukes Summer 2013

The purpose of this PowerPoint presentation is to educate new teachers about the Kids R Kids requirements concerning curriculum and classroom management. Kids R Kids provides SACS accredited curriculum for each and every classroom. The curriculum provided is on a weekly basis and is broken down by circle time, small group time, outdoor adventures, and other essential early childhood development educational times.

It is important that the Brain Waves curriculum for children 6 weeks to 4 years old (Lions class) is being implemented. All teachers need to be trained on this new curriculum. Also, there is a Brain Waves weekly activity form that needs to be completed every four weeks.

Additionally, every week the curriculum sheet, events calendar, lunch menu, accommodations and modifications form, and take home project should be posted on a bulletin board near the front of the classroom. This is to be completed for the following week prior to leaving on the Friday before.

ABCMouse.com is the individualized learning path that each child has the opportunity to obtain an account on. Accounts can be set up for new children by contacting Erica Dukes for password information. Curriculum will be loaded on Monday for the upcoming week for classroom activities. Note: The computers in your classroom are for the purposes of using ABCMouse.com and other curriculum related websites. Curriculum related sites do not include: YouTube, online music, search engines, etc. If you have any questions about computer use, please see an administrator for prior approval. Also, movies are not considered curriculum without prior approval.

We DO NOT use worksheets of any kind within our classrooms unless specified as a teacher tool within the curriculum for the week. All artwork is considered “free art” and if posted, must be dated within 30 days.

Bulletin boards are in every single classroom and each classroom has their very own bulletin board in the hallway to display their work. Each curriculum bulletin board must have the learning goal, date, and pictures of the students completing the task. The bulletin board in the hall way may be theme related and does not have to have pictures displayed.

There is a schedule in every classroom. No matter if you are assisting, leading, or floating into the room, you are to follow the schedule as is. No two classes (younger than pre- k) are allowed on the playground at the same time unless approved by an administrator.

Nicole Samuel Washington: Director of Education for children 6 weeks – 3 years old (Giraffes) Erica Dukes: Director of Education for children 3 years old – school-age children (Tigers- Pythons, this includes GA Pre-K and private pre-k) A Director of Education is your immediate supervisor. This person is the “go to person” for all of your curriculum questions, comments, or concerns. Your director of education will assist you with printing curriculum, the program review, and other areas of concern.

Early childhood classroom management can be challenging at times. However, we must remember that these children are not your family members or your own. Parents are entrusting our teachers to care for and educate their children.

The following punishments are not acceptable for children: Isolation of a child Harassment of a child Embarrassing of a child Physical punishment Intentional harming of a child Violent and/or aggressive movement of any part of a child’s body Neglect of a child’s needs With holding food, snack, nap time, or outdoor playing time from a child.

Forms of classroom management that is considered professional include, but are not limited to: Redirection Giving choices Reward system Routines Schedules Consistency Having a professional and healthy relationship with the children Open communication Verbalizing and maintaining expectations for all students

At our school, we integrate technology, learning stations, small group, and other research-based early childhood educational materials. Within each classroom, the teachers will need to determine which instructional strategies work best within their classroom. In order to reduce the confusion between teachers, please make sure to openly communicate and collaborate with fellow teachers to come to a conclusion as to what instructional strategies work best for your classroom.

If you have any questions, comments, or concerns regarding any of the material covered within this presentation, please feel free to contact any of the administration for clarification or answers to your questions.
