Separable Prefix Verbs Some verbs in PD can be combined with prefixes which in turn change their meaning: kumme – to come aakumme – to arrive In present tense usage, the prefix will separate from the verb and move to the end of the sentence or question: Subject – Verb – other stuff – Prefix. Verb – Subject – other stuff- Prefix?
3
Separable Prefix Verbs Lets use aakumme as an example. The train is arriving at 2 oclock: Der Draen kummt um 2 Uhr aa. Lets turn that sentence into a question: Kummt der Draen um 2 Uhr aa?
4
Separable Prefix Verbs As covered in Video 20, when a Modal is used in a sentence, the verb is forced to the end of the sentence. This rule applies with Sep. Prefix Verbs. When this happens, the verb does not split apart: Der Draen soll um 2 Uhr aakumme. This also happens in the Future Tense (Video 23): Der Draen waerd um 2 Uhr aakumme.
