Social/Emotional Develops friendships. Express more awareness of other people’s feelings. Get better at sharing and taking turns with other children. Listen while others are speaking. Strategy used by parents to enhance development: Play games, sing songs, and read stories with new feeling words also express their own feelings.

Cognitive Can count ten or more objects. Better understands the concept of time. Knows about things used every day in the home (money, food, appliances). Correctly names at least four colors. Strategy used by parents to enhance development: Count with them to 10 and then ask them to do it themselves.

Linguistic Recalls part of a story. Speaks sentences of more than five words. Uses future tense. Tells longer stories. Strategy used by parents to enhance development: Help by teaching your child new words everyday.

Fine Motor Build a tower of 9-10 small blocks. Draw a circle by herself/himself. Start to hold a crayon or pencil with a mature grasp (like an adult). Cut across a piece of paper. Start to cut along a straight line. Strategy used by parents to enhance development: Give your child newspaper and show them how to tear it using their thumb, index, and, middle fingers.

Gross Motor Put shoes on correct feet. Kick a ball. Zip and unzip coats and pants. Balance on one foot. Strategy used by parents to enhance development: Teach your child to put shoes on correct feet themselves.
