1 Program Review – Assessing the Health of Curriculum Programs Mark Lupton Director, Institutional Research, Planning and Effectiveness South Piedmont Community College 2/26/08

2 Learning Outcomes  Team development and membership rules.  Calendar.  How to do Program Review, not what is it.  Learning’s from year one.  Ongoing issues.  Still to be developed.

3 Team Development  SACS Core Requirement 3.4.1. The institution demonstrates that each educational program for which academic credit is awarded Is approved by the faculty and administration Establishes and evaluates program and learning outcomes Conclusion was that it should be faculty led with administration assistance.

4 Team Development  Four one day retreats and six three hour meetings required for team membership.  Faculty who enjoy time with leadership.  Faculty who had history of perseverance  Faculty with Friday availability.  IE, VP Student Learning, Director of Library Services

5 Calendar October 12, 2007 The Program review team will provide a hands on workshop. All program review files will be distributed. October - November Program Directors and Lead Instructors analyze data and prepare program review report, electronically November 16, 2007 Electronic Program Review is due to Chair and Dean of your department. November 21, 2007 Electronic Program Review is due to the Program Review Team, electronic copies to Cheryl Hicks and Mark Lupton November 21 - December 21The Program Review Team will review each packet. January 11th, 2008 The Program Review Team will set appointments with specific program leaders for in-depth conversations and to develop improvement plans. February 1, 2008 The Program Review Team will forward their recommendations and program plans to SLT March 15, 2008 Program Review Improvement Plans due to the Program Review team, electronic copies to C. Hicks, and M.Lupton

6 Learning’s From Year One  Simplify, Simplify, Simplify  Fall cycle, not Spring cycle  Have a faculty member complete the Program Review before it is distributed.  Automate and score Data Measures in advance of distribution  Workshop, include examples

7 Ongoing Issues  Subtle differences between sub- teams on scoring qualitative measures.  Follow up workshops on Program Outcomes  Best method for sharing results.  Results of first Program Improvement Plan, (PIP).

8 Still in Development  Closing the loop front end and back end. Mission Statement Strategic Plan Annual Plan  Tying LRP into Program Review  Workforce Demand  Student Evaluation  Rollout to Support Services and Continuing Education
