What is interprofessional education? “Interprofessional education occurs when students from two or more professions learn about, from, and with each other to enable effective collaboration & improve health outcomes. Once students understand how to work interprofessionally, they are ready to enter the workplace as a member of the collaborative practice team. The ACA (Title V, Subtitle D - Enhancing Health Care Workforce Education & Training) is promoting IPE for many medical professions: ● General medicine (5301) ● Direct care workers (5302) ● Traditional & Alt Dentistry (5303/4) ● Gerontology (5305) ● Mental & behavioral health (5306) ● Cultural competency & disabilities (5307) ● Nurses (5308/9) What does the ACA have to do with IPE and Competencies?

(Title V, Subtitle D, a, 1, G) The grant/contract can focus on planning, development, and operation of programs that provide training in new competencies including (but not limited to): 1.Providing training to professionals relevant to care through patient-centered medical homes 2.Developing tools and curricula relevant to patient- centered medical homes 3.Providing continuing education to professionals relevant to patient-centered medical homes ACA & IPE Cont.

The purpose of this center is to provide an infrastructure for: ● Leadership ● Expertise ● Support to enhance coordination and capacity building of IPECP among health professions in the U.S. - particularly in medically underserved areas (HRSA.gov/grants/apply/assistance/interprofessional) Coordinating Center for IPE & Collaborative Practice Grant

Supports schools & healthcare facilities: 1.Innovative program coordination 2.Scholarly activities 3.Analytic data collection efforts Raises the visibility of: 1.High-quality 2.Coordinated 3.Team-based care Creates better well-informed care because of IPE & best practice models How will this grant support IPE & Collaboration?
