1 Assessment at HFJS Monday 5 th October 2015

2 September 2015 - All primary year groups are to follow the new curriculum. The system of ‘levelling’ a child has been removed and schools are free to develop and help prepare children for end of Key Stage assessments and for the next stage in their education. What’s new?

3 There is greater focus on deepening understanding before moving on to new topics. The focus of assessment- to what extent children have developed their understanding rather than what level that shows they have achieved.

4 …levels failed to give parents clarity over how their children were performing… resulted in a lack of trust between primary and secondary schools. The commission will help schools develop their own, more accurate assessment systems that truly show how a child is performing in the classroom. The education system lost sight of the need for a genuine conversation between parents and schools to help parents support their children.
