Citronelle High School Parent Newsletter December 2014 Citronelle High School National Honor Society is collecting toys for the Toys for Tots program. Please help support this wonderful cause and bring a toy to the front office at CHS. Thanks for making a child’s Christmas. CHS Academic Teams starts its HI-Q season in January. Our home match is January 22 starting at 9:30 am. JROTC won 6 trophies in the LET 1 Drill Meet on Nov 19, 2014. Our Senior Cadets should be commended for the outstanding job they did in preparing our underclassmen for their record breaking performance. Our Freshman and Sophomores placed in every event at the competition. This is the first time that has happened with the CHS JRTOC. TOBACCO-FREE SMOKE SCREEN The use of electronic cigarettes is growing to be a billion-dollar industry. While some may tout “vaping” as a safer alternative than “smoking” conventional cigarettes, there are similar health hazards in using either of these nicotine-filled products plus a few potential dangers specific to e-cigarettes. Here is what studies have shown. Nicotine, which is not only addictive, may also harm the arteries after repeated use. Both cigarette types alter lung function, causing airway resistance and cellular changes. Liquid nicotine is extracted from tobacco and a small dose(less than a tablespoon) can be lethal. Particles found in e-cigarette vapor have been shown to be harmful to cardiovascular tissues. There has been reported incidents of some rechargeable e-cigarette devices exploding when charging in people’s homes. Since e-cigarettes are a new trend, there has not been enough research to suggest that these devices are safe alternatives, so it’s best that people continue to exercise caution and opt for a nicotine-free lifestyle. www.potentialmagizine.com Important Dates Dec 10-11 - Golf Tryouts December 12 - Class fees are due.
