Satire and Parody Satire: Parody:
writing that mocks and/or criticizes an aspect of society (beliefs, conventions, popular people, etc.) with wit and humor Humor achieved through exaggeration, parody, irony/incongruity, etc. Parody: a work that imitates a literary work/genre or well-known entities in order to illustrate shortcomings May imitate the plot, characters, or style of another work, but usually exaggerates those characteristics to an obviously humorous point.

Satire and Parody Next to your definitions, add at least three examples of each satire and parody. Remember: satire can use parody, but a stand-alone parody will not contain the other elements of satire.

Shrek As we watch a clip from Shrek, complete the worksheet by identifying elements that fit the definition of satire and parody.
