This topic is all about exploration and the interaction of different people and cultures as new countries around the world were discovered. STARTER: Do you know the names of any famous explorers? Discuss with a partner and see how many names you can come up with.

11. INTRODUCTION Over the last 1000 years, explorers and adventurers from all parts of the globe have sought to discover new lands and to explore the limits of the earth as they knew it.

12. Reasons people explored?? Over many hundreds of years, many people have explored for many different reasons. Exploring, whether by land or ship, wasn’t easy – much less was known about the world, technology was much less advanced, ideas about the world were quite different.

13. What did people know about the world? Have people always seen the world the way we do?? Have you heard of any different theories about how people saw the world??
