21 August 2015 Take a Poetry on Friday sheet from the VIP table and have a sheet of paper ready to go. Be prepared to think, discuss, and write.

Bell Work On your own paper, write the header from the white board in the upper right corner. Write the following title in the center: Mirror, Mirror Speak To Me Then copy the following prompt and write your response to it (3/4 to full page): If your mirror could speak, what would it say?

Think about it… At a young age, girls are handed “Barbie Dolls,” dress-up clothes, and makeup. A Barbie Doll in actual size would be 5 ft. 7 in. tall, have the measurements of 36-24-36, blonde hair, and blue eyes. With no such “natural” female existing, what are we asking of our young ladies? No one’s opinion should matter more than one’s own.

Your Turn Using Piercy’s “Barbie Doll” as a template, create a male version of this poem. Think “Ken,” “Action Figure,” “G.I. Joe,” etc. Your poem is due Monday at beginning of class.
