LIGO- G010181-00-Z GriPhyN All-Hands Meeting 2001.10.15LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville) 2 Overview of E/O activities Fall/Winter 2000: Begin search for E/O coordinator Begin benchmarking tests for UTB linux cluster Spring/Summer 2001: Search for E/O coordinator and benchmarking continue … Search completed: Manuela Campanelli hired as a faculty! E/O coordinator attend GGF1, makes contacts with dissemination program of European data grid projects, other E/O projects (EOT-PACI, QuarkNet, ThinkQuest), E/O coordinator partecipate in iVDGL proposal and contact tier3 centers (Hampton U., Salish Kootenai College). Begin construction of UTB linux cluster

LIGO- G010181-00-Z GriPhyN All-Hands Meeting 2001.10.15LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville) 3 Present E/O activities and plans Fall/Winter 2001: Construction of UTB cluster completed Begin installing Condor, Globus on UTB cluster E/O coordinator starts at UTB iVDGL funded! Grid-enabling UTB cluster: Condor, Globus Prepare and submit a proposal for REU supplement for iVDGL : however it is important that we know who would like to mentor students during next summer and propose projects!

LIGO- G010181-00-Z GriPhyN All-Hands Meeting 2001.10.15LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville) 4 Present E/O activities and plans continue … Design of new web-pages for GriPhyN E/O activities ( http://www.aei- potsdam.mpg.de/~manuela/GridWeb/main.html ): http://www.aei- potsdam.mpg.de/~manuela/GridWeb/main.html »Basic educational material about data grids, information about the physics experiments, etc. »Technical support information (e.g., documentation, user manuals, how- to guides) for the GriPhyN virtual data toolkits »Simple web-based access to real data which illustrates of the concept of virtual data (SDSS, LIGO??) Hire 1 graduate and 1undergraduate students with iVDGL funds Upgrade UTB cluster from 96 nodes to 128 nodes

LIGO- G010181-00-Z GriPhyN All-Hands Meeting 2001.10.15LSC Member Institution (UT Brownsville) 7 Future plans Year 2002: Improved GriPhyN E/O web pages: »Adding more technical support information (e.g., documentation, user manuals, how-to guides) for the GriPhyN virtual data toolkits »Active web-based access to real data which illustrates of the concept of virtual data (SDSS, LIGO) UTB apply to a REU site for GriPhyN research: »educational physicist at UTB Philip Dukes interested in paretcipating. Increased minority-serving institution participation as part of the iVDGL »UT Brownsville: (HIS) connections with LIGO; continued participation »Hampton College: (HBCU) connections with ATLAS »Salish Kootenai College: (AIHEC) connections with LIGO
