2. Course Goals Use the Materials of Music to identify, define, analyze and discuss different musical styles. Recognize and describe the major characteristics of various styles of music. Identify examples of outstanding music from a variety of historic periods and cultures. Recognize and describe the role and influence of music in other areas of life throughout history. Identify ways culture has affected music and ways music has affected culture. Begin to understand the effect of music on social issues in the world and vice versa.

7. Music Review Each quarter, students must attend one live musical event: Battle of the Bands Chorus concert Marching Band Show Pop music concert Provide a written critique of the performance using the guidelines from class Style of music Number of performers Use the Materials of Music as a guide
