3. Reconstruction  the process by which the states that had seceded were reorganized as part of the Union after the Civil War.  the period during which this took place, 1865–77.  The period of time in which the government attempted to put the country back together.

4. Thirteenth Amendment 1865  First reconstruction amendment  “ Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

5. Peace and Equality?  This amendment is the United States’ official action against slavery by abolishing it except as punishment for crimes.  the United States first reconstruction step towards peace and equality  The slaves have been set free, the law is pretty clear, what else do they need?
