Reconstruction the process by which the states that had seceded were reorganized as part of the Union after the Civil War. the period during which this took place, 1865–77. The period of time in which the government attempted to put the country back together.

Thirteenth Amendment 1865 First reconstruction amendment “ Neither slavery nor involuntary servitude, except as a punishment for crime whereof the party shall have been duly convicted, shall exist within the United States, or any place subject to their jurisdiction.”

Homework Directions: Complete the following writing prompt by using what you have learned in this and past classes. Make sure to support your writing with at least 4 facts in relation to reconstruction, the civil war, or the treatment of slaves. Don’t forget to include a definition of the 13 th amendment as well! Spelling and grammar do count! At least two paragraphs! Writing Prompt: “Do you think that the 13 th amendment will solve all of the problems for former slaves in the South? Why or why not? Explain, and be sure to give me a definition of the 13 th amendment.
