0-9: Volume
2
0-9: Volume Volume: The space occupied by a solid. Volume is measured in cubic units. The formula for the volume of a rectangular prism is V = l ● w ● h The prism on the right has a volume of 2 ● 2 ● 3 = 12 cubic units
3
0-9: Volume Find the volume of each rectangular prism
The length is 8 cm, the width is 1 cm, and the height is 5 cm V = lwh = (8)(1)(5) = 40 cubic centimeters The prism on the right = (4)(2)(3) = 24 cubic feet
4
0-9: Volume The volume of a solid is the area of the base multiplied by the height. For a cylinder, the area of the base is πr2. So the volume is V = πr2h The cylinder on the right has a volume of π(3)2(6) ≈ cubic inches
5
0-9: Volume Find the volume of each cylinder
The radius is 5 cm, and the height is 6 cm V = πr2h = π(5)2(6) ≈ cubic centimeters
6
0-10: Surface Area
7
0-10: Surface Area Surface Area: The sum of all the surfaces (faces) of a solid. Surface area is measured in square units.
8
0-10: Surface Area Find the surface area of each solid. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary The prism has a length of 3 meters, width of 1 meter, and height of 5 meters S = 2lw + 2lh + 2wh = 2(3)(1) + 2(3)(5) + 2(1)(5) = = 46 square meters
9
0-10: Surface Area Find the surface area of each solid. Round to the nearest tenth if necessary The cylinder has a height of 8 cm and radius of 3 cm S = 2πrh + 2πr2 = 2π(3)(8) + 2π(3)2 = 48π + 18π ≈ square centimeters
