Japan is a country located at 35.6833ºN, 139.7667ºE which is in Asia. Japan has a population of 126, 999, 808 people. Japan’s capital city is Tokyo which is located in central Japan.

Religions and Languages Japan has many religions but its two main religions are Shinto and Buddhism. Japan’s major language is Japanese.

Food The most popular and liked foods in Japan are Sushi, Ramen, Unagi, Tempura, Kaiseka, Soba, Shabu-Shabu, Okonomiyaki, Tonkatsu and Yakitori.

Customs Japan has very tricked rules about many things but here is just some of them, all greetings must be formal, if they have a different status then you they have to be treated with more respect and the honoured guest or the eldest person has to sit in the middle of the dinner table and start eating first.

Holidays and Celebrations Japan has many holidays and here are just some, New Years, Coming of age, National Foundation day, Doll’s festival, White Day, Spring Equinox Day, Showa Day, Constitution Day, Greenery Day, Children’s Day and Christmas.

National Costume The kimono is Japan’s national costume but it is only worn for special occasions.

Leadership Japan has a prime minister named Shinzo Abe. Japan also has an emperor known as Emperor Akhito.

Economy Japan’s major imports are: crude petroleum, petroleum gas, refined petroleum, coal briquettes and computers. Japan’s major exports are: cars, vehicle parts, industrial printers and machinery having individual functions.

Famous Japanese People Some famous Japanese people include film maker Hayao Miyazaki, singer-songwriter Hikaru Utada, video game designer Hideo Kojima and artist Yoko Ono.

Tourist Destinations Some of Japan’s tourist hot spots are Mount Fuji, the Golden Pavilion, Tokyo Imperial Palace, Tokyo Tower, Todaji Temple, Tokyo Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Sea.

Other Interesting Facts Japan suffers 1,500 earthquakes per year. Japan has more than 50,000 people over the age of 100. Japan consists of 6,800 islands. The 2011 earthquake near Japan increased the earth’s rotation speed, shortening the day by 1.8 microseconds.
