What is HANC? HIV/AIDS Network Coordination Office established in 2004 with support from the DAIDS-funded HIV Clinical Research Trials Networks Directed by Dr. James Kublin and funded by DAIDS Work plan guided by DAIDS and six Network Principal Investigators Located at the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center in Seattle, Washington, USA 2

Facilitates communication and information sharing for collaborative, international, cross-Network groups Helps to identify and connect groups that might not otherwise interact regularly, but have common interests or challenges Current cross-Network groups

HANC methods Connect individuals or groups with shared interests Define specific goals, objectives and timelines Coordinate working group activities Facilitate conference calls, meetings and discussions Provide administrative and logistical support tools Identify and report on successes and challenges 6

7 What is Community Partners? A leadership group that was proposed and developed by community volunteers and staff, designed to represent cross-Network community research needs and priorities scientific agendas ethical conduct of clinical trials community education communication/information dissemination respect for community priorities continued community participation Funded by DAIDS as part of recent RFA and recompetition process

Community Partners Membership Structure Voting membership includes community representatives selected by each Network, as well as additional at large and regional reps. Network staff, DAIDS and HANC reps serve in a non-voting capacity.

Working groups of the CP - 1 Community Training Working Group: works to identify and develop programs to meet the training and support requirements of local CABs. Currently undertaking work in that respect Community Recommendations Working Group: working on the document ‘recommendations for community involvement in NIH DAIDS Clinical Trial Networks’. Work still in progress

Working groups of the CP - 2 Nominations Working Group: which handles nomination processes in the group. Currently saddled with the responsibility of identifying Co- Chairs for the group Scientific Priorities Steering Committee: Would focus on identifying scientific priorities of the community and articulating this to the Network and DAIDS leadership

Working groups of the CP – 3 Adhoc committees: there is the Open Letter on Sex and Gender working committee. The committee tries to work across the network to ensure that information on transgender issues are collected at the trial sites so as to ensure that transgender health related problems are identified and planned for.
