11 www.toastmasters.org  Devotion & Desire:  It is time we reflect on the leadership for each area of the Division.  It is important that Area Governors must commit to helping out the clubs within their areas not just the minimum area visit requirement for the whole year or not attending on line meetings.  AG’s of clubs with more than 3 struggling clubs must have a reasonable & substantial back-up plan in place. i.e. where there is resistance from the officers of the club then the problem have to be referred to the District leaders for solution.  3 Coaches have been assigned to 3 clubs with low membership to bring them to charter strength.  Interclub interchange/ Assistance. Encourage club members to go & visit other clubs to learn and work on their designation and bring back ideas that could inspire and bring the membership up.  Have open houses not just once but at least twice a year for the struggling clubs.  Encourage charter strength clubs to pair up with a struggling club to extend assistance.  Have a join big open house like membership campaign held in a public area. Division D – Charter Strength Action Plans

16 www.toastmasters.org  14 out of 30 clubs in the division identified as struggling:  Several of these clubs have a history of low membership  Several of these clubs have members not achieving goals  Several of these clubs have a history of not attending COT or of having a low number of officers trained  Shared challenges for some of these struggling clubs:  Large distance to the nearest club, sometimes 2 hours or more.  Major division events (i.e. speech contest or COT) usually take place in or around Edmonton, which requires members from the furthest of these clubs to drive 4 to 5 hours if they want to attend, which would be 8 to 10 hours round trip.  Smaller communities may contribute to fewer guests.  Much harder to find members willing to be club coaches because of the driving distance, especially in winter time. Division A – Identifying Weak Clubs

17 www.toastmasters.org  Mini conference in Grand Prairie (February 21 st )  Possible TLI and club building efforts in Hinton and Jasper, which would give the Hinton club more access to interclub events closer to home.  Looking outside the box (i.e. focus beyond DCP):  Communicating with the clubs to identify what their members need most  Seeing if there are experienced Toastmasters who can go to the aid of these clubs  Training existing members how to market their clubs and find new members  Finding ways to get club officers trained without requiring them to come to Edmonton Division A – Getting Support to Clubs In Need
