6 ELECTRONIC SYSTEMS ENGINEERING TECHNOLOGY TEXAS A&M UNIVERSITY Innovating tomorrow’s products and systems today Capstone Design students SHALL must create a project team of from three to four members, selected a team name, and a team manager. This action SHALL be documented in a formal memorandum delivered to the ESET Program Assistant in hard copy. The memo SHALL include the team name, the team members, the team manager, and contact information (email and cell #) for all members. In addition, a short description of the project scope should be included in this memo. The Web folder password SHALL be hand- written in the bottom right corner of this document. A copy of the team memo (without the password) SHALL be posted to the team web site. The team manager must also email the course instructor a soft copy of this memo from the email account using the address that will be assigned to the project team for all correspondence from the instructor. Both hardcopy and email softcopy of the document must be provided by the due date. Please note that the scope of your project must be consistent with the number of members in your team – choosing four members will necessitate that more work will be accomplished during the ENTC 420 semester. Late or incomplete submissions will reduce the team’s/student’s grade for this assignment.

The Quad Charts are due by 3PM on Wednesday of the third week of class. The Quad Charts must be provided in hard copy and be emailed to the course instructor so that the email is received on or before the due date/time. Late or incomplete submissions will reduce the student’s grade for this assignment. Although two or more students may generate Quad Charts on similar projects, each Quad Chart must be an independent effort and not utilize or contain any information generated by another person or source. The format for the Quad Chart is provided with an example in this presentation. No variations from this format will be accepted. Hard copies should be printed in color.

22 Features Determine orientation of vehicle by the knowledge of a digital compass inside the vehicle. Accommodate up to 250 vehicles at intersection using a traffic light Wi-Fi server. Independent street light population based on vehicle orientation via in-car Wi-Fi transmitter. Efficient state machine calculates each light state time by an estimating algorithm. Smoother traffic flow created by real time intercommunication of intersections. Technical Approach Phase 1: Contact Texas Transportation Institute(TTI) to research traffic issues including flow and traffic light algorithms. Phase 2: Develop a high capacity Wi-Fi system to receive vehicle information and orientation. Create a more effective traffic light state machine through intelligent algorithms. Phase 3: Verify, install, and test the system using multiple vehicle devices, 4-way intersections, and a predetermined route including 3 traffic lights. Phase 4: Demonstrate the functional prototype to TTI.
