by William Golding Born in Cornwall in 1911 Joined the Royal Navy in 1940 and served through WWII Wrote his first novel, Lord of the Flies, in 1954 Won the “Booker Prize” in 1980 and the Nobel Peace Prize in literature in 1983 He died on June 19, 1993
