Celebration of Thanksgiving. The first Thanksgiving took place in autumn 1621 to celebrate the first harvest of the pilgrims in America. To celebrate this harvest, Pilgrims and Indians had a feast. The First Thanksgiving lasted three days. The Indians taught the Pilgrims how to hunt, grow and fish. To thank them, the Pilgrims invited the Indians to eat with them. The name of the Indian tribe was the Wampanoag.

On 1621 The first Thanksgiving meal took place in Plymouth in late 1621. Were present this day 60 Pilgrims and about 1 hundred Indians. The meat which was eaten on the day of the first Thanksgiving wasn't a turkey but rather a duck or a swan because these meats were boiled and not baked in an oven. You could also find pork, venison and other prey probably hunted by Indians. Served as a side dish, vegetables were mostly seasonal vegetables such as carrots, pumpkin, onions and even corn. Now,it’s so different! Today, the meal consists of turkey, pumpkin pie (the pumpkin was the vegetable that allowed the Pilgrims to survive before learning how to cultivate the land), cranberry sauce, potatoes, etc. You should start cooking a day before to have time to prepare the meal on time for the guests.
