2 The AP Achievement List (aka Honor Roll) Selection criteria Based on three years of AP data (2008, 2009, 2010) with: 1.Increase in participation in/access to AP by at least 4 percent in large districts, at least 7 percent in medium districts, and at least 11 percent in small districts 2.A steady or increasing percentage of exams taken by African American, Hispanic/Latino and American Indian/Alaska Native students; and 3.Performance levels maintained at 70 percent of AP students scoring a 3 or higher Shoreline’s results

4 About the PSAT Background Preliminary SAT / National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test Same skills, format, directions, question types, similar score scale, as SAT Measures critical thinking and ability to reason in Critical Reading, Mathematics, Writing Skills Typically offered on Wednesday and Saturday in early October Why take the PSAT Prepare/practice for SAT* Screener for scholarships, academic competitions Surface potential for AP coursework, college Some diagnostic feedback for educators *Shoreline students have gained an average of 72 (Critical Reading), 85 (Math), and 91 (Writing) points on SAT by taking PSAT

5 PSAT testing in Shoreline Shoreline plan All Shoreline sophomores* will take PSAT on Wednesday, October 12, in the two high schools Rationale: to communicate to students expectation of college readiness and identify potential for AP coursework We have a team in place to work out logistics The Early Participation Program Requires of us: test at least 75 percent of students in participating grades, including 10 th ; and at least 25 percent of students receive free or reduced-price lunch We receive: 25% discount on exam fees; complementary data and services; professional development to analyze district data *excluding SPED students with severe disabilities that preclude them from taking standardized tests and ELL students who arrived in the U.S. within the past year
